ABC News is reporting: "It is with great sadness that Mark and Carol Thatcher announced that their mother Baroness Thatcher died peacefully following a stroke this morning," Lord Timothy Bell, her former adviser, said today. "A further statement will be made later."

Thatcher was the longest serving prime minister, leading the country from 1979 to 1990. President Reagan and Thatcher called each other ‘political soulmates.’ The Iron Lady hated communism and believed in small government.

However, Thatcher’s role in politics remained controversial. Her own party called for change in leadership.

But despite the sharp criticism, Thatcher was credited for bringing privatization and lower taxes to Britain's dying economy.
