Bowdoin Wreck Injures Three

State Police say alcohol and speed are factors in a crash involving a pickup truck in the Town of Bowdoin late Wednesday night. 

The three occupants of the truck were taken to a Lewiston Hospital- two of them thrown from the vehicle and the third was trapped inside.   Troopers said the driver was 28 year old Robert Mathews Jr., of Bath.  He and 16 year old Emily Freeman of Topsham were thrown out of the cab of the truck as it overturned  off Route 138, about 10:30 Wednesday night.  A second passenger – 19 year old Caleb Donaldson of Woolwich – had to be freed from the wreck by a team of firefighters from three local departments -- Bowdoin, Bowdoinham and Topsham.

The three were taken to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston  with multiple injuries, but their conditions were not known Thursday morning. Troopers said Mathews lost control of the 2001 Chevrolet on a curve in heavy fog.  The truck overturned several times coming to rest on its roof wedged against a group of trees.  There is no indication anyone was wearing seat belts.   

Troopers said charges against Mathews will be filed after the district attorney’s office is consulted.
