Presque Isle Police say they responded to the Presque Isle Inn at 11:41 p.m. Tuesday to a complaint that a tenant was discharging fireworks in his room and in the parking lot, disturbing other tenants.

Officers made contact with the man, identified as Michael Mielnicki who was reportedly responsible for the illegal fireworks use.

Presque Isle Police say he is a K-9 handler and had his dog with him in the hotel room at the time. The dog was noticeably agitated.

Police say Mielnicki became combative and was charged with Refusing to Submit to Arrest or Detention, Disorderly Conduct, Criminal Mischief, Cruelty to Animals, and Possession of a Usable Amount of Marijuana.

He was taken to the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton and his bail was set at $500 cash or $5,000 surety with a sober release condition. He is scheduled to appear at the Presque Isle District Court on January 22nd.

Police say Mielnicki identified himself as an off-duty Border Patrol Agent with the Department of Homeland Security assigned to the Jackman, Maine Border Patrol Station.
