The State Medical Examiner's Office has determined the death of man whose body was found after a fire at a Caribou house to be a homicide.

On Thursday evening, the Caribou Fire & Ambulance was called to a fire at a house at 5 Lower Lyndon Street at the corner of Route 1. Fire damage was confined to the inside of the house. The man's body was discovered at that time.

Maine Public Safety Department spokesman Steve McCausland said Friday evening that DNA work is being conducted at the state police crime lab to confirm the victim's identity.

Working with State Police detectives is a team of investigators from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, along with Caribou Police.

Anyone who may have seen any activity around the house between 6:00 and 10:00 p.m.Thursday is asked to call the Maine State Police barracks in Houlton at 532-5400 or the Caribou Police Department.
