The RCMP says the incident occurred early Thursday morning off the Miller Brook Wharf near Salmon Beach in the Bay of Chaleur near Bathurst, when their boat capsized.

Sgt. Benoit Jolette says the bodies of a 45-year-old Bathurst man and a 67-year-old man from Salmon Beach have been recovered.

He says a 47-year-old Salmon Beach man was rescued and taken to hospital with hypothermia.

Police says the rescuer had experience as a firefighter and was able to relay information quickly.

Jolette says it appears the fishing gear was snared at the bottom of the bay and a wave overturned the boat.

The drowning victims have been identified as 45-year-old Darren Cole from Bathurst and 67-year-old Garnet Dickson from Salmon Beach.
