Last year, the NBA season was both an exciting and successful one for the league in terms of brand awareness and finances, plus thanks to the increase in sales of basketball sneakers and apparel. Now, with the 2016 season kicking off this week, shoe brands and NBA licensed companies are starting to roll out their new product for the fall and winter to tie in with the launch of new games.

From Kevin Durant’s highly successful Nike KD8 sneaker to Derrick Rose’s D Rose 6 Boost to Stephen Curry’s recently released Under Armour Curry 3, signature basketball sneakers have always been the “it” thing to have for NBA ballers. While the norm for players has been to sign with Nike or Adidas throughout the years, Steph Curry changed the game as far as bringing exposure to a new brand. He decided to go a different direction in 2013, signing with Maryland-based sportswear brand Under Armour, for close to $4 million dollars per year.

For years, sneaker brands of all sorts have made a splash in the footwear industry with signature basketball sneaker lines. In 1973, NBA legend Walter "Clyde" Frazier became the first player in league history to have a shoe of his own and shortly after, many players followed in his footsteps, helping build the shoe industry to what it is today through the game of basketball. One player in particular whose notoriety changed the game of sneakers is undoubtedly Michael Jordan, the NBA Hall of Famer and legend responsible for the birth of the Jordan Brand.
