An Aroostook County boy and girl have advanced to compete at the Elks’ Area One Regional Soccer Shoot in Colonie, New York.

Blayne Tardif, nine year-old daughter of Jaime and Robby Tardif of Mapleton, won the Elks’ State soccer penalty kicking contest in the under ten years-old division of the Elks Soccer Shoot held in Waterville on Sunday, October 14.  In that competition, Blayne had 15 attempts to kick a youth size soccer ball from eighteen feet away into a standard soccer goal divided into nine segments, with greater points awarded to those segments of the goal most difficult to defend.

Dawson Kinney, the thirteen year-old son of Kim Kinney, won the State Soccer Shoot championship in the under 14 age category.  He was kicking a regulation size soccer ball from twenty-seven feet away into the divided goal.

In order to compete at the State Soccer Shoot competition, both Blayne and Dawson had won the local Soccer Shoot competition hosted by the Presque Isle Elks, Lodge #1954, on September 23 at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.  They then won in their age categories at the Northern Maine District Soccer Shoot in Bangor on September 30.  They will now have the opportunity to compete at the Elks’ Area One Regional Soccer Shoot in Colonie, New York, on November 2 through 4.

Blayne was also the Elks’ State Hoop Shoot foul shooting champion for her age group division in January of this year.  She is a first-time holder of both championships for the same year.
