After years of waiting, Wonder Woman fans are finally going to get their due. Not only will the Amazonian princess appear in two films in 2017  —  the live-action Wonder Woman film next June and the Justice League crossover in November  —  she will also be the subject of an upcoming biopic of comic book creator William Moulton Marston and the two women who played a pivotal role in the creation of the character.

And now you can add an animated movie to the mix. At New York Comic-Con this past weekend (via Heroic Hollywood), Warner Bros. Animation supervising producer James Tucker was asked if the company had any plans to give Wonder Woman her own animated adventure in addition to a live-action film. Tucker admitted that something was indeed in the works:

We discussed with Warner video, and they have Wonder Woman on their radar in some form or fashion.

Wonder Woman was last featured in a standalone animated movie in 2009’s Wonder Woman; for comparison’s sake, eight animated Batman movies have been released in the same time period, not including the various crossover films with Superman and the Justice League. The original Wonder Woman starred Keri Russell as Wonder Woman and also included Nathan Fillion, Alfred Molina, Virginia Madsen, and Rosario Dawson in supporting roles. Predicting the direction that the live-action movies would take years later, Wonder Woman also featured a female director, Lauren Montgomery, who told Comic Book Resources back in 2009 that she hoped the addition of a Wonder Woman movie would help empower female comic book fans.

We may still have some work to do on that last point, but there’s no denying that more opportunities for Wonder Woman can only mean great things for the characters and her fans. Here’s hoping that Warner Bros. and DC Comics recognize the power of what they have in Wonder Woman and treat her as the equal of Batman and Superman going forward.
