Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have reportedly reached a legal agreement regarding the custody of their six children, according to a new statement from Jolie’s rep.

"We can confirm that childcare professionals have encouraged a legal agreement accepted and signed by both sides over a week ago," the rep told PEOPLE. "In accordance with this agreement, the six children will stay in their mother’s custody, and the children will continue therapeutic visits with their father. This has been determined by childcare professionals to be in the children’s best interest.

"We are not in a position to discuss the details," the statement continues. "We hope now that it is clear that the events which led to the dissolution filing involved minor children and their wellbeing, there will be understanding of the sensitivity of the family situation. We believe that all sides are committed to healing the family and ask for your consideration during this difficult time."

This reported agreement comes weeks after the former couple first settled on an initial temporary settlement in which Jolie was granted physical custody of their six children, while Pitt was given only visitation with the kids, so long as a therapist is present. That deal was then extended past its October 21 expiration date, upon further review.

But sources reportedly close to the situation tell PEOPLE Jolie's rep is not referring to a new, permanent custody agreement between the pair and is just a rehashing of what's already in place.

The Benjamin Button actor did file a legal response to the divorce on Friday (November 4), and is reportedly seeking joint custody of their six children, indicating any agreement reached between he and Jolie before that filing would likely be temporary.
