The Met Gala: New York City's annual celebration of fashion innovation, arts enrichment and stories from Andy Cohen about Taylor Swift's ruthless dismissal of Katy Perry.

In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight that previews Cohen's new book Superficial, the Watch What Happens Live host recalled a moment from the 2016 celebration in May in which he noticed Swift standing at the bar and scanning for a seat from which to watch Lady Gaga's performance. Cohen says he reflexively and thoughtlessly jumped in and said something that would most definitely not earn him entry to Swift's next lowkey hang.

"Why I felt I needed to get involved I will never know (maybe I was auditioning for her squad?) but I innocently said exactly the wrong thing to her, which was, 'Your friend Katy is sitting in the corner and there's plenty of room around her,'" he said.

Cohen says Swift then asked, "Katy who?"

Ice.

"I said, 'Perry,' at which point she clearly let me know that she's the exact opposite of her friend," he said. "She didn't threaten me about putting it in my book, so here we are."

Cohen added in an additional interview that he didn't intentionally fan flames, but that he's frequently guilty of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time.

"I think she probably thought I was being shady, but I was just being stupid," he said.

Cohen mentioned that he's tried to get Swift onto his show many times, but that she's always declined. He suspects this might have killed his chances completely. He's probably right.
