A 31-year-old American man has pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention in connection with the crash that claimed the life of Nova Scotia RCMP officer, Cst. Francis Deschênes, on September 12 in Memramcook, N.B.

Cst. Francis Deschênes died at the scene of the crash while providing aid to motorists by helping to change their flat tire. Two other people were injured and taken to hospital.

The guilty plea was given to the court on December 15 by the lawyer representing Vasiliy Meshko from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. A second charge of failing to move over was withdrawn by the Crown.

The judge has scheduled sentencing to December 22 at 1:30 p.m.
