Aid For Kids to Host Children’s Educational Fair in Houlton

The annual Children’s Educational Fair, sponsored by Aid for Kids, takes place Saturday, September 6th at the Millar Civic Center in Houlton. Activities will run from 10 to 2.

Once again this year, Bess the Book Bus will be stopping on its national tour to provide free new and used books for children.

Lowe’s will offer Build and Grow kits - fun wooden crafts that kids can put together with assistance from a Lowe’s employee.

Artist Sandra Donnelly will help children build a recycled robot.

Houlton's Cary Library will host a children’s crafts table.

Dr. Anne Langston from the University of Maine will be there with an aquamarine touch tank.

Kate Dickerson from the Maine Science Festival will be giving a wind power demonstration.

Sara McQuarrie from Sneakin’ in Science will do hands on science fun.

The Masonic Lodge will offer the child identification program.

The Maine Bicycle and Pedestrian Education program is organizing a bicycle rodeo for children who bring their bicycle & helmet. (there will be a limited amount of helmets available).

Katahdin Valley Health Center will be offering oral hygiene information.

The Maine Fire Marshal's Office will provide fire education and a hazard house to teach kids what to do if they encounter fire in their home.

The Maine Forest Service helicopter will be on site and the pilot will be available to talk with young people about the mission of the Forest Service.

The Maine Warden Service will present Safari-in-a-Box, a hands-on learning project.

Bangor Savings Bank will be available to open new children’s accounts and the bank will deposit the first 5 dollars.

Aroostook Aspirations Initiative is hosting an educational booth.

Larry Berz from the Malcolm Science Center in Easton will have an educational display.

The County Clownz will help entertain the kids with face painting and balloon animals.

Aid for Kids will also sponsor games, prizes, a bounce house and a free barbeque for children and their parents.

E-Waste Recycling will beon site to accept old televisions, computer monitors, stereos, VCRs, DVD players, digital cameras, remote controls, fax machines, CPUs, copiers, telephones, pagers and more. To see a complete list please go to aidforkids.org.
