The collision happened just after 11 p.m. in the westbound lane at marker 212 near the Canterbury exit, according to Woodstock Fire Chief Ricky Nicholson. A van hauling a 28-30 foot trailer collided with a car in the same lane, Nicholson said.

First responders used the Jaws of life to free a Quebec man from the van.  The car had Nova Scotia plates. The occupants of both vehicles were transported to the Upper River Valley Hospital. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.

The RCMP, Ambulance NB,  and members of the Woodstock and Meductic Fire Departments responded to the scene.  Chief Nicholson said the highway was closed until about 1:30 Wednesday morning.
