Gerard Dumais of Frenchville was attempting to cross Route 1 from a nearby trail on his 2009 Yamaha 4-wheeler shortly before 5 p.m., according to Corp. Chuck Michaud.

Police say Dumais failed to yield to traffic and crossed directly into the path of a Ford Focus driven by 44-year-old Matthew Caron of Madawaska. Both the ATV and the passenger car were extensively damaged in the collision.

Mr. Dumais was transported to Northern Maine Medical Center where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, Michaud said. Caron was not injured in the crash.
