After facing significant backlash for what many fans deemed a racist decision to not allow singer Sevyn Streeter to perform the National Anthem because she was wearing a jersey that said "We Matter," the Philadelphia 76ers have officially issued an apology.

Fox Sports reports that the organization had a lengthy meeting with its players on Thursday (Oct. 27).

"We're sorry that this happened," the statement read. "After receiving feedback from our players, basketball operations staff and ownership group, we believe that the wrong decision was bade, and Sevyn should have been welcomed to sing. We apologize to her, and in an effort to move the conversation forward, we have reached out to offer her an opportunity to return to perform at the game of her choice."

But will she be allowed to wear her "We Matter" jersey though?

Streeter went on Twitter yesterday, and in an emotional video post, said she didn't understand why she wasn't allowed to perform. The decision left a lot of NBA and even non-sports fans befuddled and upset. Since when is the phrase "we matter" offensive?

“I was angry, extremely, extremely angry, and disappointed and honestly brought to tears by all of it. It broke my heart,” the 30 year-old singer said later in an interview with ESPN. “Honestly, I was very excited about being able to perform the national anthem. I was really looking forward to that.”
