Sure, it's a week late but hundreds of canoeists and kayakers are ready to challenge the 16.5 miles the Kenduskeag Stream has to offer.

The 49th annual Kenduskeag Stream Canoe Race begins at 8:30am. Race officials will start five boats every minute until all craft have set sail for downtown Bangor. The race is run by Bangor Parks & Recreation Department and each year the race is considered the largest canoe race in the northeast.

Nova Scotia kayaker Trevor MacLean returns to defend his championship. In fact, he has the fastest time for the past seven races. MacLean is a 10-time winner of the race. Only New Brunswick's Robert Lang has more wins.

And speaking of Lang, while he is not competing this year his all-time record time of 1:50:08 set in 1997 is the time MacLean and others will shoot for.
