U.S. Representative Mike Michaud made the announcement Thursday morning, calling the investment "wonderful news" for Northern Maine Regional Airport.

The federal funding will allow for repairs to the airport’s apron – the areas off of runways where planes are refueled and where passengers board.

Michaud said the funds will allow the Presque Isle airport to "make needed infrastructure upgrades that will ensure it can continue to effectively and efficiently serve all of our residents and visitors who rely on the airport as a point of access, day-in and day-out."

The Presque Isle airport boasts the second longest commercial runway in Maine measuring 7440 feet, complemented by a second runway at 6000 feet.

The airport offers non-stop service to and from Boston's Logan Airport aboard PenAir’s Saab 340 aircraft. PenAir provides daily schedule service with 19 flights per week between Presque Isle and Boston.
