2Pac Pop-Up Restaurant to Open on 20th Anniversary of Rapper’s Death

On the 20th anniversary of Tupac Shakur’s death, which is on Tuesday (Sept. 13), he’ll be honored with a pop-up restaurant in in Fresno, Calif.

According to the Fresno Bee, the eatery, called The Powamekka Café, will open inside Take 3 Burgers, which is owned by Sam Hansen and Desirae Washington-Reed, along her father, Brian Washington.

The eatery will feature a one-night-only menu of four items: Hennessy Apple Butter chicken wings, a California Love chicken sandwich, a Mac-n-Cheese burger and Thug Passion cake pops.

“There was no way around Tupac, his influence, his impact,” said Hansen about the special pop-up restaurant.

Hansen said his vision for the Powamekka Café was inspired by 2Pac's sketches featured in the 2000 book, Tupac Shakur Legacy. On a sheet of lined paper, 'Pac described it as “a passionate paradise 4 people with power 2 play and parlay” and “the perfect hideout 4 those who wish 2 escape the World’z cold reality.”

“The elements he left in those sketches, you can see what he was going for,” said Hansen. “A lot of people forget that he was profoundly poetic and had a deep connection to those Afro-centric elements."

The Powamekka Café will open at 7PM on Tuesday (Sept. 13) inside Take 3 Burgers. The celebration will also include artwork from local artists and performers rapping Pac's classic songs.
