The 1975 Will Release New Music in 2017

It’s been less than a year since the 1975 released an album but they’re already back at work. Guitarist and singer Matt Healy said to expect something from them next year.

He tweeted, “New The 1975 - 2017.” That was all he wrote, so there’s no indication if it’s a follow-up to I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It or an EP or single. Nor do we know what part of the year in which to expect it.

Back in May, as they toured North America, Healy discussed why they’ve been able to be so prolific. "I'm always making an album," he told Billboard. "I'm always confused by the language of bands who are 'going to make a record' or not being able to write on tour. I think that's just something you do -- whenever, wherever."

Their second effort, I Like It When You Sleep, for You Are So Beautiful yet So Unaware of It debuted at the top both the U.S. and U.K. charts and came a little more than two years after their self-titled debut. It received praise for its wit, wide range of influences and retro-'80s sound that caused the A.V. Club to say, “In the hands of other bands, this slippery focus might feel like genre whiplash or a bait-and-switch. Yet the album coheres shockingly well.” The record was shortlisted for this year's prestigious Mercury Prize, along with releases by Bat for Lashes, David Bowie and Radiohead.
