In the inugural Downeast Metro Amateur golf tournament last June, Thomaston's Ricky Jones finished tied for second place. He is hoping to move up a spot on the leaderboard  when season's first big amateur tourney begins today.

Bangor Muni and Kebo Valley in Bar Harbor teamed up to offer this new event when the Paul Bunyan Tournament changed to Penobscot Valley CC and Falmouth CC a year ago.

Jones, a multi-time Maine State Amateur champion, and Jack Wyman finished second last year to Portland's Matt Greenleaf who is not in the field this year.

170 amateurs are in the field, including young golfers Sam Grindle (Deer Isle) and Drew Powell (Bangor). They will play in a group with Jones.

'A' flight players will play Bangor Muni today and then Kebo Valley on Sunday.
